ⓘ The Radiant System is in very early development. Many of the ideas and features described here are still in the design phase.

Radiant treats hardware, operating system, language, and network (“The System”) as one coherent instrument for human agency. There are four central ideas in the Radiant system:

  1. Clean-slate design – hardware, operating system, and programming language are built together from first principles.
  2. Local and independent – designed with no cloud, surveillance, or external dependencies, to be offline first and fully owned.
  3. Transparent and comprehensible – source code is king and the system is small and understandable by a single human mind.
  4. Accessible and creative – approachable for anyone, it invites curiosity, and makes writing software simple, like it used to be.

Clean-slate design is what makes the other three ideas realizable. Independence is what makes the central ideas robust: they aren’t subject to external influence. Comprehensibility is what gives the system continuity: the ability to adapt to a changing world, and to be used and understood by the next generation. Creativity for everyone is the end goal.

Radiant is composed of the following key components.
